| On an ordinary day, a first year college boy named Light Yagami, finds a notebook on campus at Kanto University. Written on the cover it said "Death Note" and curiously this seemingly ordinary teen picked it up and took it with him. The Death Note's instructions state that if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the notebook's authenticity, but after experimenting with it, Light realizes that the Death Note is real.
It was not a coincidence that he found it. For he is not some ordinary teen, he is a very intelligent, and borderline-sociopathic man, that has his good-guy persona to cover up what he plots. At first he dealt with the dilemma of using it or not, but he knew that he had a shot of improving the world. In his mind, he had to deal with cleaning the world of criminals.
Light then meets the previous owner of the Death Note, a Shinigami named Ryuk. He explains his reasons for dropping the Death Note in the human world. Light then tells him of his goal of becoming the "god of the new world". What started as a heroic deed soon turned to an egotistical plot.
What started in the Kanto Region soon got fame from many media stations, and attracts the attention of the world renown detective, L. The first conflict between Light and L happens over the television, beginning with the broadcast of Lind L. Tailor. After Tailor says that he is "L," he reads a declaration stating that Kira is evil. Light, in a rage, begins yelling at the image of Tailor on his TV, and kills him with a heart attack. L and Light declare that they're "justice."
Light kills Tailor by writing his name down. He thinks the ordeal is over, until the broadcast of Tailor is suddenly cut, and L's signature letter 'L' appears. Using a voice synthesizer, the real L announces that Lind L. Tailor was a decoy and a criminal on death row. He explains that Tailor's information was never made available to the public, so there was no way Kira could have killed him until now. L boldly taunts Kira, asking him to try to kill him, as Light stares at the TV angrily unamused. After several seconds, L learns that Kira needs the person's real name and face to kill the victim, otherwise Kira would have already killed him. Making a mistake, Light realizes that in fact, L narrowed it down to the Kanto Region.
As the whole face-off occurs, L knows that this is a case unlike others, and from suggestions, he agrees that perhaps having a few backups would be safe. He contacts the Wammys House, a place where he grew up, and he finds himself asking for his successors, Near and Mello. Near is ready and heads off to the Kanto Region, and rather than work under the "Task Force" with L and the police, he decides to create his own group. SPK or Special Provisions for Kira. Mello on the other hand refused to be a puppet and decides to create a group of his own, a Mafia group of corruption but Power.
But while the Kira case seems to be on the minds of everyone, it seems that other things have been hinting to other criminals. While it seems that other people are taking sides, there are more things to worry about than just Kira, considering that Kanto attracts danger in it's path.
Pick a side, take an occupation and dive into the world of Kira.
